Most small and mid-sized businesses in Dubai do not need a full-time IT person. They do need someone who answers when the internet drops, the printer stops, a laptop gets a virus or a new joiner needs an email account by Monday. That is what an IT AMC (annual maintenance contract) is for.
The problem is that two AMC quotes can look similar and cover very different things. Here is what a good contract should include, what usually costs extra and how to choose.
“The cheapest AMC is the one that prevents problems. The most expensive is the one that only shows up after something breaks.”
What is an IT AMC?
An IT AMC is a yearly agreement where an IT company looks after your computers, network and related systems for a fixed fee. Instead of paying every time something goes wrong, you get planned maintenance, support when you need it and one team that knows your setup.
What a good IT AMC should include
1. Help desk support
Remote support by phone, email or WhatsApp for everyday problems: login issues, email, printers, software errors and slow computers. The contract should say how quickly the team responds and during which hours.
2. On-site visits
Some problems need someone in the office. Check whether visits are unlimited, a fixed number per month or charged separately, and which locations are covered.
3. Preventive maintenance
Scheduled checks of computers, servers and network equipment: updates, health checks, cleaning up storage and spotting failing hardware early. This is the part that prevents downtime, and it is the part cheap contracts often skip.
4. Security basics
Antivirus or endpoint protection monitoring, operating system and software updates, firewall checks and help with account security such as two-step verification.
5. Backup checks
Confirmation that backups are running and that files can actually be restored. A backup nobody has tested is not a backup.
6. User and email administration
Adding and removing users, password resets, and managing Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 accounts when staff join or leave.
7. Network and internet support
Wi-Fi, routers, switches, firewalls and liaising with your internet provider when the connection fails.
8. Asset records
An up-to-date list of your devices, licences and warranties, so you know what you have and when it needs renewing.
What usually costs extra
Read the exclusions carefully. Common extras include:
- Hardware and spare parts. Replacement laptops, hard drives, printers and network devices are usually charged separately.
- Software licences. Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, antivirus and accounting software subscriptions.
- Projects. Office moves, new network cabling, CCTV installation, server upgrades or migrating to the cloud.
- Out-of-hours support. Evenings, weekends and public holidays may be charged at a different rate.
- Equipment not listed in the contract. Devices added mid-year may need the contract updated.
“Compare AMC quotes on what they include, how fast they respond and what they exclude. A lower price with long exclusions often costs more by the end of the year.”
How IT AMC pricing is worked out
Most IT companies in Dubai price an AMC on a few factors:
- Number of users and devices (computers, laptops, servers, printers)
- Servers and network equipment you have on site
- Response time you need, for example same day or next business day
- Number of on-site visits included
- Support hours, standard business hours or extended
- Number of locations
Ask for the quote to list each of these, so you can compare different companies on the same basis.
Questions to ask before you sign
- What is the response time, and is it written into the contract?
- How many on-site visits are included, and what does an extra visit cost?
- Is preventive maintenance scheduled, and how often?
- Who checks that backups work, and how often are restores tested?
- What exactly is excluded?
- Will we get a regular report of what was done?
- How easy is it to add users or devices during the year?
- What happens to our passwords, documentation and admin access if we end the contract?
Signs you need an IT AMC
- Your team loses time to the same IT problems every month
- Nobody is sure whether backups are working
- Staff fix their own computers or ask a friend
- Adding a new employee's email and laptop takes days
- You have had a virus, phishing email or data scare

Our take
For most small and mid-sized UAE businesses, an IT AMC costs less than one serious outage. The right contract is clear about response times, includes real preventive maintenance and lists every exclusion. If a quote is vague on any of these, ask before you sign.
If you want us to review your current setup or quote an AMC for your office, book a call with our team. You can also see what our IT support AMC covers.
When we take over an office, the first thing we check is backups. More often than not, they have stopped running and nobody has noticed. Ask your current provider when they last tested a restore.
